A BIT OF R&R WITH THE A-TEAM

June 9, 2015
Today is all about some relaxation. We slept in until about 10, grabbed a light breakfast, roamed the resort and decided to get our fourth massages of the trip. After breakfast, we headed down to the pool and beach to check out our hotel.

As it is the low season in Phuket, our hotel is pretty dead. For entertainment, you can rent kayaks and paddle boards, swim in the pool, play mini soccer, and foosball. As Ali and I took some time to relax on the beach chairs, the boys brushed up on their soccer skills. When they were finished playing around, we all engaged in a few friendly, yet competitive games of foosball.

When we were finished, we went back to our rooms, showered, and then headed over to a massage place across the road from our hotel. None of the massage ladies were there, so we waited while the guy patrolling the shop called them all in. As the first lady arrived on their scooter bike, Matt looks at us and says “Looks like the A Team is arriving”.

Matt, Ali and I decided on back massages, while Jacob went for another foot massage and a Thai massage…which is very brave. Our massages were wonderful and relaxing. (And don’t worry mom, I have been taking notes on proper foot massages for when you come to visit in July!!)

If you know anything about Thai massages, you’ll know that although they are great for loosening up and increasing flexibility, I wouldn’t say they are at the most relaxing of massages. The best way to describe them is that it is a cross between yoga and a massage. I couldn't see what was going on, but Ali said she could see through her curtain and had to keep from laughing a few times.

After our massages, we headed back to the hotel to take a nap before dinner. Matt has decided that these easy, pampering holidays are what Jake has in mind for vacations, and therefore has renamed this portion of our vacation spent at the resort as a “jake-cation”, also spelt “jakation”.

For dinner we tried the second restaurant on site, Matt and I went for the burger, Ali went for sweet and sour chicken, and jake went healthy with a Nicoise salad…just not feeling the Thai food. Matt’s ear has been playing up, but is now all cleared, so we decided that tomorrow will be another scuba day. So following dinner, we hurriedly called a few scuba shops to see who still had some availability for their dives tomorrow. We were able to secure a spot with Bubba Diving, but that just means another early start tomorrow. Time for bed!
