THANKSGIVING IN OCTOBER

October 22, 2012

Well, last night was my last night spending time with my entire family for a while. So, naturally, for my last supper I requested a traditional Thanksgiving dinner as my “going away” meal. All day Saturday the house smelled delicious as my mom worked hard to make our family favorites: sweet potato casserole, green beans, herb roasted turkey, cream corn, and no American Thanksgiving is complete with out Apple pie!
It was nice to have everyone over and together again. All of us. The entire Cook/Schneider/Iba/Morris gang. The boys were in the backyard tackling each other, and of course it wouldn’t have been a true family gathering if a scrapped knee accompanied with a little blood and tears weren’t shed by one of the kids.
Everything looked so beautiful. I convinced my mom that for the first time EVER we should use the china that she got for her wedding, along with her silver and crystal stemware. I got to eat off of one of my new china plates from my wedding. And let me tell you, those expensive plates and utensils sure do make the food taste better!
After dinner and while enjoying our choices of apple, pumpkin, and banana cream pie we watched a slide show of family pictures that my dad had put together. It was so fun to see how all the kids have grown and remember some moments that we would have otherwise forgotten.
It was such a fun night! And as I sit here and get over my October Thanksgiving “Hangover” I can’t think about how much I am going to miss everyone!!
