THE STORY OF A LONG PLANE RIDE...

May 25, 2010

One let down of this first leg of my trip was the lack of peanuts on my plane!! What is an airplane trip without peanuts?! Honestly…

I couldnt sleep on the 8 hour and 15 minute flight from Chicago to Paris...so I decided to write for a bit somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean…At an altitude of 35,005 feet, 2307 miles away from Paris, 4 hours 29 minutes until we land, -51° F outside, Speed of 553 mph (Statistics on behalf of the map of our journey provided by United Airlines).

So the plane from Chicago to Paris was delayed about an hour and a half, meaning we will be getting into Paris at about 11 instead of 9:30 in the morning. The Chicago Airport was interesting…very busy and nothing familiar in sight…not even a Starbucks!! I spotted my friend Whitney who is going to Paris and Annecy with me and then traveling Italy as well.

We were sitting and making conversation with a guy who was on my flight from LA. As we mention the struggle it can sometimes be to fall asleep on planes he offered us some pills to help us sleep…but with the movie Taken in mind, we smiled and refused without hesitation. As I sit on the plane, bored out of my mind and completely uninterested in the movies they have playing, I discover that I am absolutely HORRIBLE at chess…the computer beats me in like less then a minute…so much for that. It was pretty nice, the guy next to me didn’t want to sit in a middle seat (either that or he didn’t like me very much) so I have an empty seat and room to stretch out (as much as one can on a plane). For an 8 hour and 15 minute plane ride, it’s not too bad…just a bit boring. I have begun to wish I had downloaded more games onto my iPod…I had been playing Sudoku…but that can only last for so long since English majors such as myself have very little or no tolerance for stinking numbers. Following my battle with Sudoku I try and sleep, but with no luck…so here I am rambling on about how nothing is going on…
